The Master and Court Assistant Loraine Parkin Chair Charities’ Committee) enjoyed Saturday afternoon visiting The Bromley Scout District Camp accompanied by Liveryman Adam Taylor and hosted by our shortly to be invested Aide de Camp, Matthew Higginbottom.
As you may recall from previous postings, the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers and its charities signed an affiliation agreement with the Greater London Scout Association in June. We were the first City Livery Company to do so and are delighted that many others are hot on our heels as the support we can give the 50,000 Scouts in the Greater London Region Scouts is exciting and mutually rewarding.
The Bromley Scout District Camp brought together about 1,300 members, from all of the different scouting age groups. The camp was held at the Downe Activity Centre, which is a fantastic wooded area of about 80 acres, near Orpington. The activities on offer to learn new skills and hone existing skills were many and varied. We observed fire-making, archery, tomahawk throwing, climbing, obstacles courses, Kart racing, plate painting to name but a few.
This day out, visiting one of the organisations that the Tax Advisers’ Charitable Trust supports, was Matthew Peppitt’s last official visit as Master of the Company and was a wonderful way to complete his year as Master, as the affiliation agreement was signed by him in his year as Master.
