CIVIC AND CHARITIES’ LUNCHEON – THU 11 JUN

This year’s Civic and Charities Luncheon was held at Bakers’ Hall on Thu 11 Jun.  The Company was privileged to have Sheriff Keith Bottomley as our principal gust, as well as representatives of TaxAidHackney Carriage Drivers, City St George’s University, and CIOT.  The Master was delighted to welcome three new Companions to the Company: Irmgard Murcott, Sarah Citron, and Carolyn Finch.

The Upper Warden (and Master Elect)Caroline Turnbull-Hall, spoke engagingly about the Company’s guests, welcoming Sheriff Keith Bottomley and his Consort Kevin Bradford with warmth and good humour.  She also took the opportunity to announce the signing, that morning, of the Company’s newest affiliation agreement – with the London Scouts.

The Sheriff replied, on behalf of the guests, with some light-hearted gibes at the tax profession and some more serious reminders of the tremendous value and impact of the Company’s charitable and benevolent work.  The Master, Matthew Peppitt, responded by thanking the Sheriff and other guests for joining the Company at such an enjoyable Luncheon.  He concluded by presenting, to the Sheriff, donations to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, Mansion House Scholarship Fund, and the Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund.

This year’s Civic and Charities Luncheon was, as ever, a most cheerful and convivial affair.
