Common Hall will be held on the mornings of Wed 24 Jun and on Tue 29 Sep this year, when you may exercise your right as a Liveryman to elect the Sheriffs and the Lord Mayor of the City respectively, as those before you have done for some 550 years. Note: to be eligible this year, you must have advanced before 31 May 25.
Arrangements for obtaining (free) tickets to Common Hall held at the Guildhall, and for booking Lunch (at a cost) at Founders’ Hall afterwards, are found on the flyer here.
The flyer covers Common Hall in both June and September (to assist your diary planning); it also invites you to book and pay for Lunch after each Common Hall.
Please note: Common Hall Elections are for Liverymen only, however all are welcome to attend lunch.
101 Squadron RAF, with whom the Company has a long-standing affiliation, have invited us to visit them at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire on Tuesday 26 May 2026 – and, hopefully, then join them on a sortie over the North Sea.

At the inaugural United Guilds’ Service, in 1943, all the City Livery Companies and Guilds gathered in St Paul’s Cathedral to lift their spirits after the Blitz. The Service continues, in a similar form, to this day and remains one of the few occasions when the City Livery Companies and Guilds gather as one.
This year, the Service will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on the morning of Friday 20th March, after which there is an opportunity to join with other Companies for lunch at nearby Plaisterers’ Hall.

The LMBCL raises money each year for the care of His Majesty's Armed Forces' veterans and their families.
Hosted by the Lord Mayor at the Guildhall, and attended by a Royal Guest of Honour, the LMBCL is always extremely popular, so please do book early.
There are various 'start times' - the Company will be looking to congregate for the 12:30PM sitting.

We are delighted to arrange a return visit to the College of Arms on 5 May 2026. More details will follow later but put it in your diaries now.
The College of Arms is the official heraldic authority for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and much of the Commonwealth including Australia and New Zealand. The College is responsible for granting of new coats of Arms to individual and corporate bodies. It maintains registers of arms, pedigrees, genealogist, Royal Licences, changes of names and flags.
We will go on a tour of this 1670s building on 5th May. The tour includes an explanation of the history of heralds, heraldry and College of Arms, and we will be shown a wide selection of some of the most interesting and beautiful manuscripts.
The tour starts at 6.30 which will include refreshments at 8 which will take the form of sandwiches, cakes and wine. Places are limited so if you wish to register your interest in advance or receive more information, please contact alison.lovejoy.delorie@btinternet.com.
As pancake racing around the Guildhall Yard enters its third decade, the Company race team is even now limbering up. Under the august leadership of our Master, Matthew Peppitt– ably assisted by Michael Ashdown – we will enter 4 runners. The other two places will be filled by a Lady runner and a Novelty runner. We hope to maintain, or conceivably surpass, our dignified record to date.

Following the election of Sheriffs in June, Common Hall will gather once again at the Guildhall on Monday 29th September to elect the Lord Mayor.
Taking part in Common Hall is a privilege of being a Liveryman. Freemen, spouses and guests are not eligible to attend Common hall; they are, however, very welcome to join for Lunch afterwards.

The 2025 Sheep Drive and Livery Fair is a unique opportunity to be part of recreating historic community activities that took place on London's bridges.
A long-established charity event, celebrating the ancient 'right' for Freemen of the City of London to bring sheep to market over the Thames, toll free; all in aid of raising funds for The Woolmen Charity and The Lord Mayor's Appeal.
With Southwark Bridge closed to traffic for the entire day and ideally located between St Paul's Cathedral, and Shakespeare's Globe on the Southbank, this will be a truly spectacular family day out.

This year’s Budget Banquet will be held at Stationers’ Hall on the evening of Tuesday 17 March.
The Very Reverend Dr Mark Oakley, Dean of Southwark – theologian, author, and poet – is to be our guest of honour: “one of the most distinctive, intelligent and refreshing voices in the Church of England”.
After a Drinks Reception in the Court Room, a fine Dinner will be held in the Great Hall. Newly admitted Freemen and Liverymen will take wine with the Master, the Loving Cup will be shared, and there will be musical entertainment.

The annual Inter-Livery Carol Service will be held at Saint Bartholomew the Great on Tuesday 16 December, starting at 6pm.
This ever-popular event will be followed by a festive Supper at Butchers’ Hall, from 7.30pm.

Our annual Civic and Charities' Luncheon celebrates the Company's close ties with the City of London and its civic institutions, and with those charities we support on an enduring and impactful basis.
Every twenty years or so we try to hold our annual Civic and Charities Luncheon at Tallow Chandlers' Hall. And so it will be, in June.
After a full-house at the Budget Banquet earlier this month, we are looking forward to another excellent event in the Summer - drinks in the Courtyard, bathed in sunshine (or the Parlour if inclement), followed by luncheon in the elegant Livery Hall, and an address from Sheriff David Chalk. We shall also be presenting donations to several organisations supported by the Tax Advisers’ Charitable Trust.

The "Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch” raises money each year for the care of His Majesty's Armed Forces' veterans and their families, distributed through the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, the Army Benevolent Fund, and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
This year, the event will be held on Thursday 10th April, hosted by the Lord Mayor at the Guildhall, and attended by a Royal Guest of Honour, as well as over 1,650 leaders and decision makers from across the City and beyond.

David Collison will be speaking about CGT with a talk entitled "The Origin of the CGT Exemption for the Home". David is the author of a dozen books on taxation, including eleven editions of Tiley & Collison: UK Tax Guide. As well as running a consultancy practice, David has been Vice-President of Euro-Audit and Chairman of the Education Committee of CIOT.

History of Tax 14 October 2025 Flyer
Treloar's is a charity that provides outstanding education, therapy and care to physically disabled young people and empowers them to live more independent and fulfilling lives. Treloar's was started in 1907 by the then Lord Mayor of the City of London, Sir William Treloar. It runs a school and college in Alton, Hampshire.
Treloar's has continued to have very strong links with the City of London and the Livery companies. The Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers has regularly supported Treloar's and last year additionally sponsored a hoist which is used for essential tasks such as transferring a pupil from bed to wheelchair at the start of the day.
Each year Treloar's organises a charity Gala Dinner at Mansion House in order to raise funds. We have provisionally booked one table of 10. If you would like to join us, then please send an email to events@taxadvisers.org.uk. Places are limited so please reply by 14 February if you wish to come.

Liveryman Dr Maria Kendrick will be speaking on "The Debt Experiment: How the History of Taxation Informs the Future of Public Debt".
The world is currently on an unsustainable trajectory of increasing public debt with a corresponding necessity to find tax revenue for repayment. This is leading to calls to find new taxes to generate revenue to repay the debt. However, this is not a new phenomenon. Dr Kendrick will explain how the history of taxation informs the future of public debt in a manner that seems both historically repetitive and experimental, considering the potential impact this might have on new forms of finance and governmental structures.

Join us for a visit to the Postal Museum followed by an early evening meal at a nearby Sicilian restaurant. The Postal Museum is located on the site of what was once the largest postal sorting office of the Royal Mail. It was also the centre of the Royal Mail’s own underground railway system. Our visit will consist of two parts. We have a ride on the underground railway. This will be followed by a guided tour of the museum.

Carrie de Silva will be speaking on Glass Tax with a talk entitled 'Glass Tax Magnified - an exploration of its impact and history'.
Carrie de Silva is a tax and law academic. She is currently a Visiting Professor of Real Estate Practice Law at Harper Adams University. She is also an Honorary Professor at the Royal Agricultural University.

For over 800 years the Lord Mayor Elect has been officially admitted as Lord Mayor of the City of London in a ceremony known as the Silent Ceremony. It is conducted almost entirely in silence. Members of the public are invited to witness the historic ceremony at the medieval Guildhall.
The Opening of the Garden of Remembrance for the City & Liveries in the Garden of St Paul’s cathedral. Attended by civic party and dignitaries, City services, Associations and Livery Companies.
The Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers will be gathering together an intrepid team of runners at the City's annual Inter-Livery Pancake Race, so please add the date to your diary to cheer them on!

The Lord Mayor's Show dates back to the early 13th Century and is the oldest, longest and best loved civic procession in the world. The 2024 Show will set off from Mansion House on 9 November at 11am.

Hold the Date : Livery Shooting Day, Bisley Ranges
Whether you are a serious 'shooter', or complete newcomer wanting a new experience, this is a 'must do' event. Surplus funds are being shared between the RAF Benevolent Fund and an alternative education course organised by the RAF Small Arms Association for Air Training Corps cadets who have issues with life skills. The State Trials and Error show is a theatrical fundraiser, being performed in the World's most famous Court Room, Court No.1, Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey.
The shows are being held Monday to Thursday: 6.00pm, 18th - 21st March, with an Open Dress Rehearsal: 4.30pm, Sunday 17th March. Members may wish to book Wednesday 20th March, to concentrate the Company's presence at that performance.
Proceeds are shared between The Sheriffs' & Recorder's Fund helping Prison Leavers, Pan Intercultural Arts, helping the vulnerable, using Arts for Social Change and the Schools Consent Project, Lawyers teaching the legal definition of Consent in Schools to reduce offending rates.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress will be hosting a Bavarian Ball at Mansion House, date to be confirmed in Summer 2024, in aid of The Lord Mayor's Appeal.
This Bavarian inspired event will reflect the heritage of the Lady Mayoress and will include a beer bar serving popular Bavarian beers, mouth watering authentic German food, a foot stomping Oompah Band, fundraising activities and plenty of singing, swaying and cheering. An event not to be missed!

It is traditional, as well as festive, for members of the Company to join with other Livery Companies at the Priory Church of St Bartholomew for a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. This year the Service will be followed by Supper at the nearby Butchers' Hall.

This is a traditional and extremely popular gathering during which Liverymen are invited to attend to exercise their right to vote and serves a vital purpose in the governance of the Civic City.

Last year we entered two teams and everybody had a great evening. No prior experience is necessary. The evening provides an interesting and valuable insight into the workings of the City, with presentations given by an Assistant Town Clerk, the Clerk to the Chamberlain's Court, a member of the Livery Committee and an Alderman. All Liverymen are invited to attend this extremely popular and traditional Livery event, and to exercise their right as a Liveryman to vote. The Election of the two Sheriffs and other officers, including Ale Connors and Bridge Trustees, in Common Hall occurs each Midsummer Day. It is a considerable spectacle, and is an interesting and historic ceremony that serves a vital purpose in the governance of the Civic City.

At the inaugural United Guilds’ Service, in 1943, all the City Livery Companies and Guilds gathered in St Paul’s Cathedral to worship, and lift their spirits after the Blitz. The Lord Mayor attended, along with the Sheriffs and the Court of Aldermen; the Lord Bishop preached the sermon. The Service continues, in a similar form, to this day and remains one of the few occasions when the City Livery Companies and Guilds gather as one. This year, the United Guilds’ Service will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on the morning of Friday 15th March, after which there is an opportunity to join with other Companies for lunch at nearby Plaisterers' Hall. This, the first major event of 2024, will be held at Glaziers’ Hall on the evening of Tuesday 12th March. We are delighted to announce that Paul Johnson CBE, Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, is to be our guest of honour. We shall have a drinks reception in the atmospheric, vaulted cellars of Glaziers' Hall, before moving above ground for a superb dinner and musicians from the Guildhall School of Music will entertain us. The Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch, held at Guildhall, is the City of London's hottest annual event. It raises money for the care of His Majesty's Armed Forces' veterans and their families. Hosted by the Lord Mayor, the annual Curry Lunch is attended by a Royal Guest of Honour, as well as influential leaders from the City, senior officers of all three Services, members of both Houses of Parliament and the Ministry of Defence ministerial team.

Join us for a tour of the beautiful Temple Church which we hope will be led by the Rev Mark Hatcher, Reader of the Temple. Temple Church is possibly one of the most beautiful and historic churches in London. It was built by the Knights Templar, the order of crusading monks founded to protect pilgrims on their way to and from Jerusalem in the 12th century. Depending on the level of interest the tour will be followed by a meal on a selfpay basis at a nearby restaurant.
