Common Hall will be held on the mornings of Wed 24 Jun and on Tue 29 Sep this year, when you may exercise your right as a Liveryman to elect the Sheriffs and the Lord Mayor of the City respectively, as those before you have done for some 550 years. Note: to be eligible this year, you must have advanced before 31 May 25.
Arrangements for obtaining (free) tickets to Common Hall held at the Guildhall, and for booking Lunch (at a cost) at Founders’ Hall afterwards, are found on the flyer here.
The flyer covers Common Hall in both June and September (to assist your diary planning); it also invites you to book and pay for Lunch after each Common Hall.
Please note: Common Hall Elections are for Liverymen only, however all are welcome to attend lunch.We are delighted to arrange a weekend visit to the London Museum of Water and Steam on 27 June 2026.
The museum tells the story of London’s public water supply, the site, its people and the amazing pumping engines that helped to transform the whole of West London.
Based in the historic buildings of the former Kew Bridge Waterworks, Brentford, the London Museum of Water and Steam is home to the world’s largest collection of stationary steam engines. As it will be the last weekend of each month these historic engines fired up for steam power.
Following the visit we shall walk over Kew Bridge and Kew Green where we shall dine at The Botanist On The Green restaurant until approximately 3.30pm.
The museum is easy to get to from Waterloo, District line and the Overground.
Both members and quests are welcome but there is a minimum group stipulation of 10 people and maximum of 25.

We are hosting a Webinar on Tuesday 30 June 12-1pm with Chris Irwin, Deputy Director at HMRC, leading policy and strategy for the UK tax advice market and HMRC’s work with tax advisers. The Webinar will not be recorded so please sign up to hear Chris share his strategic insights. This Webinar is part of the WCTA’s 30th Anniversary series of Webinars. Hearing from Chris will be a real treat. Chris Irwin has more than 20 years experience in government. Chris has worked on some of the UK’s most significant policy challenges, including EU Exit and the Covid‑19 economic response. Chris’ current focus is on raising standards in the tax advice market and strengthening trust across the tax system, working with partners to improve outcomes for taxpayers.

This is a joint lunch with the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards. Their current Master is Nick Prentice who is also a member of our Company, Nick having spent much of his career as a tax partner in a global firm. Dyers’ Hall is the fourth Dyer’s Hall and was designed by Charles Dyer and built in 1839-41, the current Hall is listed Grade II* and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
There are 24 places available. Unfortunately, the limit on numbers at this event means the invitation cannot be extended to partners or guests. Seating will be arranged in the Playing Card Makers time-honoured way by randomly selecting from a pack of playing cards to ensure a good mix of Playing Card Makers & Tax Advisers.
There will be a 3-course lunch, followed by coffee/tea with wines generously provided by both Masters. The guest speaker will be Honorary Liveryman (of both WCMPC and WCoTAs) and former Lord Mayor, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli.

On Saturday 12th September, The Master will tour Squerryes Wine Estate in Kent, close to where he lives and grew up, taste their vintage sparkling wines, and take lunch in the Winery Restaurant.
Those joining in this wonderful day can look forward to:
- A tour of the vines and some history of the Estate and viticulture
- Tasting of 3 vintage wines
- A three-course seasonal lunch from Squerryes’ two AA rosette award-winning restaurant
The cost is being finalised but, after a subsidy from the Master, is expected to be approximately £170 per person for the day, excluding travel.

The Company has booked two slots for the annual Sheep Drive over Southwark Bridge, organised by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen so that people can take part alongside other Tax Advisers. A great opportunity for those with the Freedom of the City of London and their guests to take part in a City event with roots in the 12th century.
There will be an optional lunch beforehand.
