This is a joint lunch with the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards. Their current Master is Nick Prentice who is also a member of our Company, Nick having spent much of his career as a tax partner in a global firm. Dyers’ Hall is the fourth Dyer’s Hall and was designed by Charles Dyer and built in 1839-41, the current Hall is listed Grade II* and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Seating will be arranged in the Playing Card Makers time-honoured way by randomly selecting from a pack of playing cards to ensure a good mix of Playing Card Makers & Tax Advisers.
There will be a 3-course lunch, followed by coffee/tea with wines generously provided by both Masters. The guest speaker will be Honorary Liveryman (of both WCMPC and WCoTAs) and former Lord Mayor, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli.
Please see the flyer for details.
Note this event is now at capacity.
For any Freeman or Liveryman who has not attended a City of London Briefing, a City Briefing is a must!
These are aimed particularly at new Liverymen and Freemen; partners are also welcome, as are Court Assistants and Liverymen of longer standing, who have not previously been to a Briefing, who are also encouraged to attend.
They give a short introduction to the work of the Corporation, especially the relationship with the livery companies. There is opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and the Briefing is followed by a networking reception, which provides the chance to mix with other Liverymen and Freemen.

Around Midsummer and Michaelmas each year, Liverymen elect the Sheriffs and then the Lord Mayor, as they have done since 1475. This assembly of ‘Common Hall’, at which those for high office in the City are selected, is quite a spectacle.
Following the election of Sheriffs in June, Common Hall will gather once again at the Guildhall on Tuesday 29th September to elect the Lord Mayor.
Taking part in Common Hall is a privilege of being a Liveryman. Freemen, spouses and guests are not eligible to attend Common hall; they are, however, very welcome to join for Lunch afterwards.
