Remembrance Sunday
Having joined the Lady Mayor’s Show on 8 November, there was a change of tone the following day for the Master and the Upper Warden who, along with their consorts, attended the Service of Remembrance at St Paul’s and the wreath laying outside Royal Exchange.
The service, which was led by the Dean of St Paul’s, was deeply moving, paying tribute to those who defended the freedom and safety of Britain. It was attended by the Lady mayor, the Aldermen, and many veterans, and combined City pomp with a personal time for reflection. The service was beautifully choreographed, with the Last Post fading away just on the first stoke of 11am, marking the start of the two minute silence.
Following the service there was a scurry of Livery Company masters and wardens along Cheapside to the Royal Exchange, for the wreath laying and a march past Mansion House.
